p. LESLYE HEADLAND c. LEVEL 11 THEATRE
OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2017 @ THE DEN THEATRE
“Way beyond its sheer entertainment value (which it delivers in spades), Davis’ “Bachelorette” truly challenges its audience.”
Ten years after their high school graduation, three young women — the cokehead-next-door, the alcoholic prom queen, and the ferocious maid-of-honor — crash their best friend’s bridal suite for an impromptu bachelorette party. An hour later, men have joined the mix, pills have been spilled, a wedding dress is in two pieces and a night of debauchery is just getting warmed up. A smash hit Off-Broadway and later adapted for film, BACHELORETTE reminds us that, sometimes, it isn’t until we’re passed out in a tub of iced champagne that we realize who our real friends are.
“RECOMMENDED! This Level 11 production is a
ferocious ensemble effort all-around.”
“Were it not so precisely cast or thoughtfully directed, we might come away with a narrow perception of them as prototypical ‘mean girls’ – but in Davis’ rendition we see that they’re messy and complicated and devastatingly human.”
“A lean, energetic revival ... That we still like, and even empathize with these perpetual children is credit to Davis and his capable ensemble, who turn out warm, surefooted performances.”
