THE FOURTH PLAY BY SPENSER DAVIS
WORKSHOP PRODUCTION: Fall 2021 @ Broken Nose Theatre, Chicago. Directed by Brittney Brown. (Audio Version)

Originally workshopped as an audio drama,
PRIMER has now been fully adapted for stage performance and is available for a World Premiere production.

When protesters smash in the front windows of a downtown Chicago retail store, this singular act of destruction sends a ripple through eight interconnected lives: two undercover security guards, three Cosmetics employees, a cop facing a crisis of the soul, a consultant seizing her moment, and a well-seasoned manager with zero f@#ks left to give.

Set in Brady’s, the same fictional store that served as backdrop to Davis’s much-lauded play Plainclothes (for which he received the M. Elizabeth Osborn New Play Award), PRIMER is a sharp and shattering satire that deftly examines the danger of prioritizing property over people, presenting a kaleidoscope of thorny and complicated perspectives in the heart of the Midwest.

Highly Recommended! PRIMER uses humor and a hint of satire to question society’s priorities. [An] entertaining cast of characters... surveys bigger social questions from the point of view of ordinary, everyday people.
— John Arkelian, Around the Town Chicago
Highly Recommended! PRIMER is a rewarding, well-made audio experience... [it] challenges us [and] shakes us from our preconceived notions. Davis’s dialogue crackles...
— Joe De Rosa, Chicago OnStage
Highly Recommended! Earth-shattering... It can be difficult to distinguish between characters in an audio play, but with the expertise of this talented cast, we can piece each character out of the group. Regardless of who they are, we feel compelled to listen to their stories...
